Four reasons grip stops ending your set
Built around one job: locking the bar to your wrist so a heavy pull ends when your back or legs give out, not your hands.
Grip stops being the limiting factor
The closed loop carries the bar once your forearms fatigue, so your back and legs finish the set instead of your grip cutting it short on a heavy deadlift, shrug, or rack pull.
Locks to the bar, no mid-set slip
The figure 8 loops through the bar and around your wrist, so once it is set it cannot unwrap. There is nothing to re-grip on a max effort pull.
Heavy duty cotton webbing
Quarter inch cotton webbing with double and cross stitching, built to hold over 1,000 lb of pulling force set after set.
Fast to lock in
Hand through the first loop, the X under the bar, hand through the second loop. You are locked and pulling in seconds.
How Do Figure 8 Straps Lock Your Grip to the Bar on Heavy Pulls?
A figure 8 lifting strap works by forming a closed loop through the bar and around your wrist, so the strap, not your fingers, holds the bar once your grip starts to give out on a heavy pull.
Three things make that lock work on deadlifts, shrugs, and rack pulls:
- The closed loop takes the load off your fingers. Your hand goes through the first loop, the X of the figure 8 sits under the bar, and your hand goes through the second loop. Once cinched, the strap holds the bar so your finger flexors are no longer the first thing to fail on a heavy set. Browse the full lifting straps collection to compare every option in this build.
- The lock does not loosen mid-set. Because the figure 8 is a closed loop rather than an open wrap you cinch each rep, there is no re-gripping between reps. The hold on rep one is the hold on rep eight, which is why it suits maximal pulls where you cannot risk the bar rolling out of your hand.
- Heavy duty webbing keeps the hold honest. Quarter inch cotton webbing with double and cross stitching is built to hold over 1,000 lb of pulling force, so the strap is not the weak link on your heaviest sets.
As an orthopedic physician assistant, I designed the figure 8 geometry around how grip fatigue actually breaks down under a loaded bar, not around a marketing brief. If you are deciding between a strap and a wrist wrap, our lifting straps vs. wrist wraps guide breaks down which one solves your actual problem.

How a figure 8 strap changes where the load lands
No magic. Just where the pull goes once your grip gives out.
Bar and wrist lock
Hand through the first loop, the X under the bar, hand through the second loop.
Load transfers to the wrist
Once locked, pulling tension routes through the closed loop instead of your fingers.
The loop stays locked
A closed figure 8 does not unwrap mid-set, so there is nothing to re-grip.
Grip stops failing first
Your forearms stop being the limiting factor on a maximal set.
You keep pulling
The set keeps going until your back or legs give out, not your hands.
These figure 8 straps are training equipment, not a medical device. They are designed to move grip out of the way of a heavy pull, not to prevent or treat injury. If you have a diagnosed wrist or hand condition, talk with your provider before loaded pulling.

Do You Need a Figure 8 Strap or a Standard Strap?
It depends on whether you want maximum security or maximum speed between sets. A figure 8 strap is a closed loop that locks through the bar and your wrist, so it will not slip and there is nothing to re-wrap mid-set, which makes it the pick for maximal pulls where you cannot risk the bar rolling out of your hand: heavy deadlifts, shrugs, and rack pulls. The trade-off is speed, since a closed loop takes a moment longer to get in and out of than an open strap. If you want a faster wrap-and-go setup for higher-rep or superset work, our standard 24-inch lifting straps and the Easy Grip straps trade a little lock-in security for quicker on and off. Most lifters who chase heavy singles and top sets reach for the figure 8.
The Body Reapers Difference
Four things that hold up through maximal pulling sets and honest scrutiny.
Two reasons these lifting straps are better and cost less.
One strap, two things almost no one else pairs: a clinician's design and our own factory floor.
Designed by a clinician
An orthopedic OPA-C designed the figure-8 geometry around how grip fatigue actually breaks down under a loaded bar, not around a marketing brief. The pattern locks to the wrist so the bar becomes an extension of the forearm, not a slipping risk.

Made in our own facility
We manufacture in-house instead of outsourcing. That lets us control the material quality and cut the middleman markup. It is why a clinician-designed strap is $18.99 instead of a middleman-marked-up price, and why it holds up set after set.
Most brands outsource to third-party suppliers and mark up cheaper materials. We don't.

These are a game changer. Likely the best purchase in my home gym. Brilliant design, comfortable, easy to use, and well made. These work perfect for any pull exercise - upper or lower body. If you need to lift to failure but your grip is your limiting factor, these are your answer. Buy them!
Build quality is great, super thick and durable. Fits me great but a little big for my little girlfriend who is 5 feet tall. I got the large and I'll never go back to garbage traditional straps that you had to struggle to wrap around the bar. Would recommend.
They have worked great! I was nervous ordering because I have quite small wrists and I wasn't sure if they would slip off or not. But I have used them to lift heavy weights (during RDL's) several times and haven't had any issues. Would thoroughly recommend!!!
Very helpful while lifting heavy weights. Honestly it made my workout much easier. You can use it while doing weighted lunges, rowing and stiff deadlift.
