Weight Lifting Hooks & Grips

A clinician designed lifting hook that takes grip out of heavy pulls. The steel hook and padded wrist strap carry the bar for you, so your hands stop failing before your back and legs do on deadlifts, rows, shrugs, and pull-ups.

Why lifters reach for hooks

Four reasons your grip stops ending your sets

Built around one job: taking your hands out of the pull so heavy backs, deadlifts, and shrugs are limited by the muscles you are training, not by your grip.

Grip stops being the limit

The steel hook holds you to the bar, so your fingers no longer give out first. Your back and legs decide when the set ends, not your grip.

A secure, fast hold

The hook cradles the bar and sets in seconds, faster than threading straps, which suits heavy singles, drop sets, and high-rep pulling.

Load rides the wrist, not the fingers

A neoprene padded wrist strap and welded steel ring route the load across the wrist and forearm instead of the finger flexors, so the hold stays comfortable set after set.

Built for heavy, repeated pulls

A coated steel hook, heavy-duty nylon strap, and reinforced stitching, rated to a published 300 lb per hook, hold up under demanding pulling work.

Ask the clinician

How Do Lifting Hooks Let You Pull Heavier Without Your Grip Failing?

A lifting hook works by taking grip out of the pull. The steel hook cradles the bar and the wrist strap carries the load, so your hands stop being the weak link and your back and legs can keep pulling after your grip would normally give out.

Three things make that work on heavy pulling movements:

  1. The hook holds the bar for you. The steel hook curls under the bar so you are anchored to it without gripping hard. On deadlifts, rows, shrugs, and pull-ups, that keeps the bar in your hands when your grip would otherwise open. Compare every grip option in the full lifting straps and grips collection.
  2. Load moves off the fingers and onto the wrist. The padded wrist strap and welded steel ring route the load across the wrist and forearm rather than the finger flexors, so the hold stays secure through long or heavy sets.
  3. Grip stops being the ceiling on your pull. With the hands out of the equation, the set is limited by the muscles you are training instead of by grip endurance. A hook does not add strength on its own, so treat it as a grip aid, not a performance drug.

As an orthopedic physician assistant, I designed the hook geometry and strap placement around how load actually transfers on a heavy pull, not around a marketing brief. Deciding between a hook and a strap? Our grip aid guide and our figure 8 lifting straps break down which one fits your training.

The mechanism, told straight

How a hook changes where a heavy pull fails

No magic. Just where the load goes when the hook, not your grip, holds the bar.

A lifting hook does not make you stronger. It moves the point of failure. On a heavy pull, grip endurance often gives out before the target muscles do. The hook cradles the bar and the wrist strap carries the load, so your hands stay attached and your back, traps, and legs become the limit instead of your fingers.
1

Strap the hook to the wrist

The adjustable closure sets the neoprene padded cuff firm around the wrist before your working sets.

2

Set the hook over the bar

The steel hook curls under the bar and your fingers close over it, anchoring you without a hard grip.

3

Load transfers to the wrist

Pulling force routes through the hook, welded ring, and strap into the wrist and forearm instead of the finger flexors.

4

Grip is no longer the limit

With the hands out of the equation, the bar stays put even as grip endurance fades on long or heavy sets.

5

Keep pulling past grip failure

The set ends when the muscles you are training are done, not when your hands open, so you get the working reps you were after.

These lifting hooks are training equipment, not a medical device or a brace. They are a grip aid that keeps your hands attached to the bar on heavy pulls; they do not prevent or treat any injury or condition, and using them means you are not training grip during that set. If you have a diagnosed wrist, hand, or elbow condition, talk with your provider before loaded pulling.

Straight answer

Do You Need Lifting Hooks or Lifting Straps?

They solve the same grip problem in two ways, and it comes down to feel and speed. Hooks cradle the bar with a rigid steel hook, so they set in seconds and give the most secure, hands-off hold, which suits heavy shrugs, rows, and rack pulls where you just want the bar to stay put. Straps wrap the bar and keep a little more of your hand on it, so they feel closer to a natural grip and let you train some grip while you pull. If a bombproof, quick hold is what you want, start with these hooks; if you prefer bar feel, our figure 8 lifting straps and 24 inch lifting straps are built for that. Our grip aid guide walks through which one fits your training.

Why I build every piece the way I do.

After an accident left me with a severely injured spine, I spent years rebuilding my body, and more than a decade in orthopedic surgery studying the biomechanics of how the body carries load, and what makes it break down.

That understanding goes into everything I build at Body Reapers. I know what it takes to keep training hard without your body paying for it, so every piece is crafted with a decade of orthopedic knowledge and built to work the way it should: durable, reliable, and comfortable, set after set.

The research behind it

  • Jukic et al., 2022: In a study of 18 resistance-trained men, the measured deadlift one-rep max was higher with lifting straps (179 kg) than without them (162 kg). Straps and hooks are both grip aids that keep the hand fixed to the bar, so this reflects the general principle these hooks use: when grip stops being the limit, more load can be moved by the pulling muscles. Published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research.
  • Jukic et al., 2020: A separate deadlift study found that lifting straps altered the entire load-velocity profile of the lift, with the effect growing at heavier loads. It shows that taking grip out of a pull changes what a lifter can handle on heavy sets, the same reason lifters reach for hooks. Published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research.

Better and cheaper, here's why

Two reasons these lifting hooks are better and cost less.

One hook, two things almost no one else pairs: a clinician's design and our own factory floor.

Designed by a clinician

An orthopedic OPA-C designed the hook geometry around how grip fatigue changes bar path and pull mechanics on heavy pulls, not around a marketing brief. The wrist strap sits where load actually transfers, not just where it looks secure.

Made in our own facility

We manufacture in-house instead of outsourcing. That lets us control the material quality and cut the middleman markup. It is why a clinician-designed hook is $24.00 instead of a marked-up middleman price, and why it holds up set after set.

Most brands outsource to third-party suppliers and mark up cheaper materials. We don't.

Green checks mark where the clinician-designed hook wins on build and hold, not marketing. Bar feel is an honest trade-off: a hook gives up some feel to give you a bombproof, hands-off hold.

Keep them holding

Care, warranty and returns

A little care keeps the strap, stitching, and hook coating holding set after set.

Care guide

  • Cleaning: wipe the hooks and straps with a damp cloth after use to remove sweat and chalk.
  • Drying: air dry fully before storing, away from direct heat, so the neoprene and stitching keep their shape.
  • Storage: keep them in the included mesh bag in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight.

Warranty and returns

  • One-year warranty against defects. Easy returns and exchanges.
  • Free U.S. shipping over $50.

Body Reapers stands behind the quality of our lifting hooks. They come with a one-year warranty covering defects in materials and craftsmanship under regular use. This warranty does not cover damage from improper handling or misuse. How to claim: contact our support team with your proof of purchase and images of the defect, and we will inspect and, if needed, replace your hooks within the warranty period.

A hook removes grip as the limit on the sets you use it for, so you are not training grip during those sets. Most lifters use hooks on their heaviest pulling work and train grip separately or on lighter days without them.
