Why Do Boxers and MMA Fighters Wrap Their Hands?

Hand wraps pack the small bones of the hand and the wrist into one aligned unit and hold the wrist near neutral during striking and heavy bag work.

  • Impact distribution. Wrapping binds the metacarpals and thumb together so impact force spreads across the whole hand structure instead of concentrating on a single knuckle.
  • Wrist alignment. Wrapping the wrist supports it near a neutral, straight line, so it resists folding back or rolling sideways when a punch lands.
  • A firm, secure hand. A thumb loop and a large hook-and-loop closure hold the wrap firm, so the hand stays packed as a unit through the session.

In my clinical experience with combat athletes, wrapping the hand and wrist is a sound way to support the structures that take repeated load in striking sports. It is training support, not a medical device.

Body Reapers products are clinically informed to support athletic performance.

Body Reapers Hand Wraps are built for boxing, MMA, Muay Thai, and heavy bag work. We craft them from a cotton blend with elastic stretch for a firm, breathable wrap that flexes with your hand and holds its tension wrap after wrap.

Each pair comes in two lengths, 3.5 m and 4.5 m, with a large hook-and-loop closure and a thumb loop for a secure, repeatable fit. The 3.5 m length covers most hands; the 4.5 m length layers longer for larger hands or a firmer, more padded wrap. Available in black and red.

Wrap your hands, support your wrists, and glove up. Body Reapers Hand Wraps are built to hold up session after session.
