Why fighters wrap up

Four reasons your hands and wrists stay supported

Built around one job: packing the hand into an aligned unit and holding the wrist near neutral so force spreads across the structure during striking and bag work.

Packs the hand into one unit

Overlapping layers bind the metacarpals and the thumb together, so the hand loads as a single aligned structure instead of loose, independent bones.

Holds the wrist near neutral

Support keeps the wrist near a neutral, straight line, so it resists folding back or rolling sideways when a punch lands or when you grip the bag.

Cotton blend with elastic stretch

A breathable cotton blend that flexes with the hand and holds its tension wrap after wrap, with reinforced stitching built to last.

Large closure and a thumb loop

A thumb loop to anchor the wrap and a large hook-and-loop tab to lock it, so it sets firm and stays put through a session.

Ask the clinician

How Do Hand Wraps Support Your Hands and Wrists in Boxing and MMA?

Hand wraps work by packing the small bones of the hand and the wrist into one aligned unit and holding the wrist near neutral, so the force of striking and heavy bag work spreads across the wrapped structure instead of loading one knuckle or a bent wrist.

Three things make that support work in boxing and MMA:

  1. The hand packs into one unit. Overlapping layers bind the metacarpals and the thumb together, so the hand loads as one aligned structure instead of loose, independent bones. See the full range in the wrist and hand support collection.
  2. The wrist holds near neutral. Wrapping the wrist supports it near a neutral, straight line, so it resists folding back or rolling sideways when a punch lands or when you grip the bag.
  3. Force spreads across the structure. With the hand packed and the wrist aligned, impact distributes across the wrapped structure rather than concentrating on a single joint. A wrap is support and alignment, not armor, and it goes on under your gloves, never instead of them.

As an orthopedic physician assistant, I built these wraps around how load actually travels through the hand and wrist in striking sports, not around a marketing brief. Wrap first, then glove up, and pick 3.5 m for most hands or 4.5 m for larger hands or a firmer wrap.

The mechanism, told straight

How a hand wrap changes where impact force lands

No magic. Just where the force goes when the hand is packed and the wrist is aligned.

A hand wrap does not make your hand indestructible or your punch land harder. It packs the small bones of the hand and the wrist into one aligned unit and holds the wrist near neutral, so impact force spreads across the wrapped structure instead of loading a single knuckle or a bent wrist. It is support and alignment, not armor.
1

Anchor with the thumb loop

The thumb loop starts the wrap so you build even, overlapping layers from the wrist out across the back of the hand and the knuckles.

2

The hand packs as a unit

Layers bind the metacarpals and the thumb together so the hand loads as one aligned structure instead of loose, independent bones.

3

The wrist holds neutral

Wrapping the wrist supports it near a neutral, straight line so it resists folding back or rolling sideways on impact.

4

Force spreads across the structure

With the hand packed and the wrist aligned, impact distributes across the wrapped structure instead of concentrating on one knuckle or joint.

5

Locked for the session

The large hook-and-loop tab holds tension so the wrap stays firm through bag rounds and sparring.

These hand wraps are training equipment, not a medical device or a brace. They are designed to support and align the hand and wrist during striking and bag work, not to prevent or treat any injury or condition. If you have a diagnosed hand or wrist condition, talk with your provider before striking or heavy bag work.

Straight answer

Do You Need Hand Wraps If You Already Have Gloves?

Yes, and you wear both. Gloves cushion the blow between your hand and the target. Hand wraps do a different job underneath: they pack the small bones of the hand together, support the wrist near neutral, and hold that structure firm so force spreads across the hand instead of loading one knuckle or a loose wrist. Gloves without wraps leave the hand loose inside the glove; wraps without gloves leave nothing between your knuckles and the bag. For boxing, MMA, Muay Thai, and heavy bag work, wrap first, then glove up. Between the two lengths, 3.5 m suits most hands and 4.5 m builds a longer, firmer wrap for larger hands.

Why I build every piece the way I do.

After an accident left me with a severely injured spine, I spent years rebuilding my body, and more than a decade in orthopedic surgery studying the biomechanics of how the body carries load, and what makes it break down.

That understanding goes into everything I build at Body Reapers. I know what it takes to keep training hard without your body paying for it, so every piece is crafted with a decade of orthopedic knowledge and built to work the way it should: durable, reliable, and comfortable, set after set.

Better and cheaper, here's why

Two reasons these hand wraps are better and cost less.

One wrap, two things almost no one else pairs: a clinician's design and our own factory floor.

Designed by a clinician

An orthopedic OPA-C designed the wrap length and tension around how impact force travels across the small bones and tendons of the hand during striking and heavy gripping, not around a marketing brief. Every wrap pattern traces back to joint protection, not trends.

Made in our own facility

We manufacture in-house instead of outsourcing. That lets us control the material quality and cut the middleman markup. It is why a clinician-designed wrap is $12.99 instead of a middleman-marked-up price, and why it holds up set after set.

Most brands outsource to third-party suppliers and mark up cheaper materials. We don't.

Care, warranty and returns

A little care keeps the blend and stitching holding their tension wrap after wrap.

Care guide

  • Cleaning: gently hand wash after use with a mild detergent. Avoid machine washing so the wrap keeps its elasticity.
  • Drying: lay flat to air dry away from direct heat. Skip the dryer to protect the stitching and the blend.
  • Storage: store in a cool, dry place, and let them fully dry before storing, ideally in the mesh bag.

Warranty and returns

  • One-year warranty against defects. Easy returns and exchanges.
  • Free U.S. shipping over $50.

Body Reapers stands behind the quality of our hand wraps. They come with a one-year warranty covering defects in materials and craftsmanship under regular use. This warranty does not cover normal wear, or damage from improper handling or misuse. How to claim: contact our support team with your proof of purchase and images of the defect, and we will inspect and, if needed, replace your wraps within the warranty period.

Striking sports and bag work: boxing, MMA, Muay Thai, and kickboxing. The wrap packs the small bones of the hand and the wrist into one aligned unit and holds the wrist near neutral, so impact force spreads across the structure instead of loading one knuckle or a bent wrist.
Overlapping layers bind the metacarpals and the thumb together and wrap the wrist so it holds near a neutral, straight line. That keeps the hand packed as one unit and the wrist from folding back or rolling sideways on impact. A wrap is support and alignment, it does not make your hand indestructible or add power on its own.
Yes. Wraps and gloves are not interchangeable, you wear both. Wraps go on underneath to support the hand and wrist; gloves cushion the blow against the target. Wrap first, then glove up.
Length is how much wrap you get, not a hand measurement. The 3.5 m length covers most hands; the 4.5 m length layers longer for larger hands or a firmer, more padded wrap. Between the two, go longer for more support.
Yes. They are made to wrap the hand and wrist and sit comfortably under standard boxing and MMA gloves.
