7mm Double Prong Belt - Size Guide

Below is a neatly formatted table for the size chart along with additional measurement guidelines:

Size Waist (inches) Waist (cm)
Small (S) 28" – 32" 71 – 81 cm
Medium (M) 32" – 36" 81 – 91 cm
Large (L) 36" – 40" 91 – 101 cm
X-Large (XL) 40" – 44" 101 – 111 cm

Important: Measurements may vary by ±0.5" (±1 cm).

How to Measure

  • Use a Flexible Measuring Tape: Wrap it snugly around your waist.
  • Measure at the Navel Level: This area provides the most accurate waist measurement.
  • Follow the Chart: Your typical pant size might not correspond directly to these measurements.

Additional Note:
If your waist measurement falls between two sizes, we recommend selecting the larger size for optimal comfort.

Why lifters start here

Four reasons this is the belt to learn on

Engineered around one goal: give your core a real surface to brace against, without a punishing break-in.

Dial in a secure fit

The zinc-plated steel double-prong buckle fastens across multiple holes, so you can set a snug, customizable fit and adjust it as needed.

A grip that stays put

The suede-lined interior grips your shirt instead of sliding, so the belt holds its position through the whole set.

Even support, uniform width

The belt holds the same width all the way around, spreading bracing force across your lower back instead of one point.

A softer, faster break-in

7mm leather molds to you faster than a stiffer belt, so you get a real bracing surface without weeks of break-in.

Ask the clinician

Why Start With a 7mm Double Prong Belt?

A 7mm leather belt is the practical starting point for lifters building real bracing habits, because it gives your core a genuine surface to press against without the break-in period or rigidity of a thicker belt.

The clinical case comes down to four things:

  1. A real bracing surface, sized for entry. 7mm of premium leather is stiff enough to brace your core against on moderate-to-heavy compound lifts, without demanding the multi-session break-in a 10mm belt needs.
  2. A double-prong buckle you can dial in. The zinc-plated steel double-prong buckle fastens across multiple adjustment holes, so you can set and reset a secure, customizable fit as your training changes.
  3. A suede-lined interior. The suede lining sits against your shirt without sliding, so the belt holds its position through the set instead of riding up mid-rep.
  4. Uniform width, front to back. The belt holds the same width the whole way around, so bracing force spreads evenly across your lower back instead of concentrating at one point.

From my orthopedic practice, I recommend the 7mm belt for lifters newer to belt training, or anyone stepping up from no-belt work who wants to learn correct intra-abdominal bracing before moving to a stiffer belt. Once you are consistently working above roughly 85% of a 1-rep max on squats and deadlifts, a 10mm belt gives more rigid support.

The science, told straight

How a belt actually helps

No magic. Just physics you can feel, in a belt built for building the habit.

A belt does not make you stronger. It gives your core something to brace against, raising intra-abdominal pressure and stiffening your trunk so your spine handles load more safely. We would rather tell you the truth than oversell it.
1

7mm belt

A 7mm-thick leather band with a suede-lined interior wraps your midsection, giving your core a real surface to brace against.

2

Core braces

Your abs push out against that firm 7mm face, not open air.

3

Pressure rises

Intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) climbs.

4

Trunk stiffens

The double-prong buckle keeps the belt snug through the set, so your torso stays a firmer column rep after rep.

5

Spine stabilized

The lumbar spine handles load more safely.

up to ~40% more
Wearing a belt raised intra-abdominal pressure by roughly 25 to 40% versus lifting beltless on near-maximal squats.
Lander JE et al., Med Sci Sports Exerc, 1990 & 1992. Measured intra-abdominal pressure, not spinal load directly.
Lower spinal load
Bracing against a stiff belt lowered peak spinal compression during heavy lifting compared to lifting beltless.
Kingma I et al., 2006.
Faster bar speed
Lifting with a belt produced significantly faster bar speed at 90% of 1RM squats than lifting beltless.
Zink AJ, Whiting WC, Vincent WJ, McLaine AJ. J Strength Cond Res. 2001;15(2):235-240.
Stiffer trunk
A belt raises intramuscular pressure in the spinal erector muscles and stiffens the torso during heavy bracing, helping the spine handle load.
Miyamoto K et al., Clin Biomech, 1999.

This belt is training equipment, not a medical device or back brace. It does not prevent or treat injury. If you have a diagnosed condition, talk with your provider before heavy lifting.

Straight answer

Should You Start With a 7mm or 10mm Belt?

A 7mm belt gives you a lighter, more forgiving profile while still delivering meaningful core support for moderate-to-heavy compound work. It breaks in faster than a thicker belt, which suits lifters with smaller frames and anyone stepping across from no-belt training, and it teaches correct intra-abdominal bracing without the material restriction of a thicker belt. Many lifters graduate to a 10mm belt as their working loads climb, using the 7mm as the belt that got their bracing right.

Why I build every piece the way I do.

After an accident left me with a severely injured spine, I spent years rebuilding my body, and more than a decade in orthopedic surgery studying the biomechanics of how the body carries load, and what makes it break down.

That understanding goes into everything I build at Body Reapers. I know what it takes to keep training hard without your body paying for it, so every piece is crafted with a decade of orthopedic knowledge and built to work the way it should: durable, reliable, and comfortable, set after set.

The evidence behind bracing with a belt

  • Lander et al., 1990 & 1992: a belt raises intra-abdominal pressure during heavy squats.
  • Kingma et al., 2006: bracing against a stiff belt lowers peak spinal compression.
  • Zink et al., 2001: faster bar speed out of the bottom of a near-max squat with a belt.
  • Miyamoto et al., 1999: a belt raises erector-spinae pressure, stiffening the trunk.

Better and cheaper, here's why

Two reasons this 7mm belt is better and costs less.

One belt, two things almost no one else pairs: a clinician's design and our own factory floor.

Designed by a clinician

An orthopedic OPA-C designed the 7mm thickness as a genuine entry point: enough stiffness to brace against on moderate-to-heavy compound lifts, without the break-in period or rigidity of a 10mm belt. Every measurement traces back to biomechanics, not trends.

Made in our own facility

We manufacture in-house instead of outsourcing. That lets us control the leather quality and cut the middleman markup. It is why a clinician-designed leather belt is $55.00, not marked up like it would be if we outsourced production, and why the double-prong buckle and stitching hold up set after set.

Most brands outsource to third-party suppliers and mark up cheaper materials. We don't.

Questions, answered

Everything you're wondering

Brush off the mold, then wipe with a 50/50 vinegar-water solution, and let it air dry before conditioning the leather.
Yes. The belt is built for squats, deadlifts, and powerlifting exercises.
Yes. The uniform-width leather is designed to enhance posture and stability, giving your core a stable surface to brace against during heavy lifts.
Yes. The double-prong buckle is made of zinc-plated steel to prevent rust and corrosion.
A little, but less than a stiffer 10mm belt. The 7mm leather softens over a few sessions, which is part of why it works well as an entry point into belt training.
The 7mm is the lighter, more forgiving option and a good way to learn correct bracing without the material restriction of a thicker belt. Many lifters graduate to our 10mm Lever Belt as their working loads climb. If you're already lifting near-maximal weight, the 10mm may be the better starting point.
Measure around your navel with clothes on, not your pants size. That measurement maps to our S to XL range. The belt fastens with a double-prong buckle across multiple adjustment holes for a customizable fit.
Yes. It's built for lifters of all levels, and its lighter profile makes it a natural starting belt for anyone new to training with a belt.
Yes. The leather is sturdy but lightweight enough to allow a full range of motion during your lifts.
The double-prong buckle fastens across multiple holes, so you can dial in a secure, customizable fit as your training changes.
With the care steps above, the leather, zinc-plated steel buckle, and reinforced double stitching are built to hold up to regular training. It is backed by a 1-year warranty against defects in materials and craftsmanship.
